Today the post is gonna be on the topic haircare!
We all have done atleast few mistakes related to our hair..So I'm gonna let you know about common hair care mistakes to achieve healthy hair.
HERE WE ARE GONNA TALK ABOUT:
✓Confusing scalp type with hair.
✓Everyday habits-cleansing, conditioning and combing.
✓Combing wet/oiled hair.
✓Applying conditioner on scalp
CONFUSING SCALP TYPE WITH HAIR TYPE:
When choosing a shampoo we often consider the state of hair strands. But, what about the scalp? Just like our facial and body skin, the scalp also has sebaceous and sweat glands. All of it gets trapped underneath the hair growth and dense hair is more likely to smell and develop fungal infections. Every individual has different scalp type and the lengths are most often dry. An oily scalp requires purifying and deep cleansing while dry scalp needs protein and plant oils. Adding moisture to oily scalp only becomes a breeding ground for fungal growth, dandruff or even seborrhea.
Hence, while picking the right shampoo, it is the scalp type that has to be considered and treat the lengths with appropriate conditioner.
EVERYDAY HABITS- CLEANSING, CONDITIONING, COMBING:
Cleansing hair requires gentle and disciplined care. "Double Cleansing" is not a new term but it is equally important for hair as well as the skin to thoroughly clean the scalp and unclog the follicle openings. Not diluting and foaming up the shampoo before massaging on wet scalp leads to excess usage, eventually leaving hair dry and brittle.
The amount of conditioner used must depend on length and density of hair. Always apply in vertical movements starting from below the nape going towards tips. Run fingers through hair to gently separate strands. And, never rinse conditioner before allowing it to work for 2-3 minutes atleast and with water at room temperature. Towels or tshirts, whatever we use, we must not twist and pull hair, rather gently wrap it and place it securely.
Air drying is always the best option and if you get early morning sunlight, then let your hair open and sun dry for 5 minutes.
Towel drying is completely unnecessary and infact it is one of the major reasons for frizzy and tangled hair. Simply press hair in between towel folds and squeeze out excess water.
Tying a bun or ponytail on freshly washed hair leads to hairfall.
If scalp is very sweaty, then never tie wet hair as it will lead to a foul sour smell.
Comb hair once a day and no more. Always make sections and detangle hair starting from tips going upwards and holding sections mid way to prevent pulling of hair from roots everytime you run a comb.
COMBING WET/OILED HAIR:
We have all heard at a hair salon that it is best to detangle wet hair because of less tugging. Yet, we always notice more hairfall when doing so. The same is after a scalp oil massage. The truth?
Wet hair is more flexible but weakest due to the shift in protein bonds that run throughout hair shaft and as cuticles are swollen and roughed up when wet, it makes hair more vulnerable to snap while combing.
Freshly oiled hair breaks for two reasons-a scalp massage loosens some of the strands from the roots that detach easily and fall off with gentlest of combing. Second being unnecessary friction in attempts to make oil absorb better that further lead to knots.
The irony is we loose more hair while trying to make it healthier and smoother. Always remember, detangle hair before oiling and always when it is dry.
APPLYING CONDITIONER ON SCALP:
There are many brands that recommend applying conditioners on scalp as well but to soften the hair strand, conditioners have sealing and coating ingredients that do not only clog hair follicles but also cause buildup and when that mixes with scalp's natural oils, it creates a unhealthy environment damaging hair follicles and eventually hair loss. This can become serious in extreme humid weathers leading to infections.
For extreme dry scalps, use herbal hair oils before shampooing and reduce frequency of wash allowing natural oils to soften skin and nourish roots.
CONCLUSION:
Haircare can be equally tough as skincare and treatments even costlier so try to relate your haircare mistakes and save your pretty mane.
